Lastname Story :)

"mee perlentraa"

"KAKARLA kishan"

"MANCHU sreedhar"

"needi bey"

________________________________________________

Flash back:

V class..final days :

It didnt take much time to realise the intensity of the embarrassment when we were summoned to be at Principal's room during the final days of V class.......As at Tagore school, there was no english medium beyond V class, princi was doing some paper work for TC et cetera....He suddenly started asking our surnames and I always disliked mine.Matter-of-factly,Strongly Disliked ;).After Radha(krishna)..it was my turn. didn’t want to expose my last name before Radha(he might know though). He would smile sarcastically which i only could understand..courtesy: our "okey-kancham-okey-mancham-kinda-friendship" :) .So when i was asked i simply said " i dont know" .Flabbergasted by my answer, princi asked me to go home(very nearer) and find it out. And the the one who without any ounce of surprise …stood smiling…. was my my nemesis :) Radha…because he knew .He knew I lied.

My thoughts in such instances during school-days went like : "people say that the surname shows some ancestral history..prestige.. but nobody knows even the name of one's own great grandfather …then whats the deal in the surname..why cant we go for a new” .great thinking kadaaa….!!!! thanku thanku :P

Intermediate I year: First week

The very experienced, veteran english sir ...subbaiah sir was asking about the family-tree of everybody as he was 100% confident(naa time bad..mchh!!!) that during his vast 30 years of teaching experience he must have encountered and taught atleast either of our parents or even both. God!!!!!!! My heart was aching fearing the embarrassment. And it happened again for the nth time.As the sir could not figure out my lineage...the face-to-face session lasted for a long time..me standing at my desk.....everybody staring......and within no time...each and everybody of the class room came to know my "itu yedu tharaalu-atu yedu tharalu" history ;-) .

Engineering-Ragging days:

The most feared days....had to utter the name prefixing the surname...Otherwise,had to face the wrath of the seniors : paying penalty or doing imposition-work ..the worst part was.. listening to all the filthy words they would say to you..
Stupid rules of ragging. And I used to tell my name spluttering the surname part.. ….hahaha ..in some cases even I made it sound differently altogether….

And the biggest problem did arouse with the advent of internet...when I had to create personal email id.Most of the friends had theirs with their lastnames but I never dared to keep it that way.. hahahaha ... Kishan used to tease me sometimes calling me ”hikranthi”( my id those days)..and sreedhar enquired me about the number in my id kranthi200( also mine for another period)...

Hmm…but, by the end of first year (btech)…I didn’t feel anything eerie about it…got used to that….the next few years in college..whoever asked me ,I just simply told them…quite a big change.....revolutionary change, indeed :P .

Still...kabhi kabhi.... I feel jealous whenever I come across some good lastnames :P...hmm.. nothing can be done….just relax and enjoy what my Great Great grandfathers bestowed ;)

Most encountered scene....during raggging period…when seniors caught us:

"mee perlentraa"

"KAKARLA kishan" (wow ..good one)

"MANCHU sreedhar" ( aahaa.."manchu".. manchi surname)

"needi bey"

"POTTABATHULA kranthi kumar" ( thaathaaaaa!!!!!!! )

-The End- :D

Jaunty Jaunt :)

WOW.What a journey!!!! though a short one, really cool. Last evening(Thursday)…I boarded a share-auto at Sec'bad station to get to my room. And as u r aware.. the heavenly principle of a share auto is : Load the auto with that many people that even atoms could not find a place to get in . And adhering to that principle…the driver who was 25 to 28 years of age..filled the auto with all the bakaras who were dying to go to their houses at the earliest. The auto started…Total head count in the auto was nine.Four in the front and 5 in the backseat. I sat next to the driver.

As we reached chilakalguda circle….a traffic constable suddenly blocked our way with a small digital camera in his hand and asked us to stop. The driver slowed a bit and that constable took a pic of the auto..as it is against the law to carry that many people. And while he was taking pic,the driver started unleashing his humorous side..and said in a low voice.. theeyiraa theeyi…nee yaabba..ennni sarlu teesthaarra babu…”..and the auto moved..
The dignified old couple in the back seat enquired adenti..vallu dabbulu adagaledu?.. And the driver briefed that they would send the penalty slip to his address and he had to pay at e-seva. And he ended saying “ ee mundhu koorchunnollantha aa photolo vuntaaru” ani navvadam start chesadu..he delivered that dialogue in such a way that I could not help laughing..The hyper-active man to his right weaved a story-on-the-spot and said anna ..andukey photo theesetappudu nenu venekki thiriganu (Antha abaddham!!!)..
I began imagining how the photo would look like.It would be a front view of the auto with four of us (only heads will be seen) looking at the camera through the glass………great picture….:D :D …..and the driver continued his story..
anna monna ikkaday gudi daggara auto aapaananna water kosam, nenu vachesariki okadu vachi photo teestunnadu..naku mandi annanu anna, okka nimisham, nenu kooda duvukoni ready ayyivastanu..nannu kooda theeyi' annanu. vetaney aa police oye..nadu nadu annadu ani cheppi okatey navvuthunnadu….nenu kooda fullu laughing.
In the next stop one person got down..and the driver..continuing his laughter.. started narrating another incident to us which occurred this afternoon…
eeroju oka super scene jarigindanna....madhyahnam..okayana ekkadanna .ekki naa pakkana koorchunnadu…papam problem avuddemonani venakki velli korchomannanu.
I enquired peddaayanaa anna?.
The driver said peddayaney..pedda saar laaga vunnadu..tuckku gikku tie esukunnadu…papam endukuley ani venakaki vellamannanu and he stopped and was laughing.laughing…Looking at him, I could not suppress the laughter and I joined him… He continued with his ever-existing-laugh nenu atla anagaaney ayana EHEY!!!!! Ekkado akkada saavani(chavani) nannu.....nenasale pareshanlo vunna..madhyalo nee golenti ani annadanna..
That’s it….the way he enacted that scene was so funny..and I was like rolling-on-the-floor-laughing….Finding me in that state he repeated the whole story….and we both were laughing… laughing.. laughing……
Even now…when I think about him and that scene…I could not help smiling( a big smile)… And I liked the way he took that person’s comment in his stride instead of getting into a verbal fight. He was so cool and had great sense of humour.

With The Oscar-Winner

It has been ages since I had a sound sleep. I have been invariably living another life at nights….dreams....dreams...dreams….i feel like…i have been chased by dreams….the peculiar thing is..I remember everything that I dream. For every other person( correction: who sleeps well :) ).. a sleep is a refresh button ,a pause to all the hectic, hurly-burly living of the daytime. And for me…sadly…its another life and I have to be ‘alive’ there . No break for me...wait…you might be wondering why on earth kranthi is doing a soliloquy kind of thing. okay…let me stop this and tell u why…

I had a dream two nights ago…a dream which I cherish forever :) As it happens in every other dream..in this also..there was a transposition of locations…sometimes it was my office,My Home Hub and the next moment it was my engineering college hostel (godavari hostel …something like Ramesh’s room) and for a while it moved to road near Malaysian township ( hiteccity-jntu campus road) .

And the dream was….

I met AR Rahman….Not just meeting….you know what….i gave suggestions to him …fullu comedy kada…? ;-) but it happened. Let me narrate a bit…I was in that room with AR …another person was also there..I didn’t know who he was but I felt like I knew him.He was..like…a music album producer... He was asking AR to compose a song. AR instantly started composing and finished. There was a key board in the room. The song was good…believe me AR asked my opinion on that song. While I was with AR..i was so casual....and I replied him switching my glances over both of them “ song was good…but it caters to the category of patriotic songs…if that was what u were trying to do..then it was good” :O
Can u believe that….???? And AR clarified..”yes..we were doing that only…something like a patriotic song” ..and that face-I-know-person nodded his head in approval. Later I asked AR..” Could you help me learn keyboard…I think it would take lakhs to have you as my instructor....”

And it ended abruptly…..i woke up and thrilled . That conversation with AR ..That ingenuous smile of his……wow…..I’ll remember :-)

On Voting Day . . .

You might have heard about the boons promised by our Chandra babu naidu. If he wins : the poor will get a colour TV , the unemployed will get a monthly payment of Rs.1000 and the women will get Rs.2000 deposited in their accounts by the end of every month.

When I came to know about these promises for the first time…I was taken aback. I could not figure out what happened to our pragmatic babu. I could not digest the fact that even our techie babu could promise the moon to garner votes. I was very averse to all the election-gimmicks played to get that most coveted position.."The Chief Minister".

One of my friends,Santhosh who is hard cored ,ardent fan of TDP and ChandraBabu ,when asked by me, though he also didn’t like those money-transfer-schemes ,told me “ mari emi chestadu kranthi , edinaa haami ivvakapothey votes padavu..anni partylu edo okati cheptunnayi…..kabatti ayanaki kooda thappadam ledu ” ani. But ..that ratiocination could not give me a satisfied answer and my detestation of babu continued.

The Voting-day:

I went to srpt with hari to cast our votes. I voted first and we (hari, santhosh and me) hurried to the other polling station to have hari cast his vote. Finding Hari’s name in the list was not an easy task. In that hot sunny afternoon, we moved from one polling station to the other to trace his exact voting-station.

In that journey….i came across an old lady…a lady which made me think form her viewpoint… shifting my previous viewpoint centered at chandra babu naidu. We three went to one place and hari and santhosh were checking the lists .I was feeling uneasy with all this aimless-wandering in that sultry weather and started observing people over there who came to cast vote. An old woman was talking to some people..and I focused my gaze in that direction.

Those people( 3 men)were wearing TDP scarfs…and that gave me a clear picture that they were wooing people make cast in favour of chandrababu’s mahakootami. They might have told that old lady that casting vote to babu would help u get money(quoting babu’s money-transfer-scheme). This lady, was innocent , illiterate, ….and may be, she was poor like millions of other indians who still believe that miracles would happen in their devastating lives….Their discussion suggested that she voted Babu and came back to them.

And this was the discussion ensued...and it was very heart-touching … made me so sad….I can still hear her voice…the way she was speaking…. with a quiver in voice.. I cant verbalize …I can never forget …

She asked them ” eppudu vasthayayya dabbulu…”

“vote vesava” ,they asked.

“ haa”

“ippudu kaadu oka nalugu nelala tarvatha vastayi..”

“naalugu nelala..???? “. She was disappointed.

“ aaa….neeku renduvelu vastayi…banklo vestaru..inko veyyi kooda vastayi....”

She was all ears…. listening to them in awe …with full concentration…. and her eyelids forgot to blink…. She didn’t want to miss a single word they were saying…

“koncham vachetattu choodandayya….” uttered sadly, though with a pinch of hope.

“votesavu kada..nuvvu intikellu…dabbulu vastayile”

“sarenayya…koncham choodandi vachetattu”..

Forget about chandrababu…forget about YSR….forget about the tricks…. and forget about the intentions( guileful or guileless) of politicians….when I saw that woman….i could do nothing but hope…hope that she would get that money…I didn’t think about the practicality of that scheme…I just thought how horrible and painful and miserable life they are leading…and how badly they need money….very pathetic……

I hope they will not be cheated…..i hope …..i hope…..

They should be happy…. And That lady…that lady who was in normal simple green saree....that lady who had wrinkles on her face…that lady who walked away sadly… should be happy….. I hope.

My Name Is ???????

Nomenclature Story: Part I

Do u know what my mother wanted to name me as ??? …

Rajavardhan is the answer .

How does it sound… Rajavardhan… Raja..vardhan…Rajavardhan….

Is that okay….will that go with me ? Lets replace ‘ kranthi ’ with ‘ rajavardhan ’ and see the results…
A friend who is not that familiar will call me “ hi rajavardhan ” “ lunch ayindaa rajavardhan” “ rajavardhan…. okasari itu raa” “ bye rajavardhan” …uuuuuuuhh!!!! Koncham (koncham enti chaalaa!!! ) different gaa vundi kada….either that name is TOO BIG for me(kranthi) or ...am TOO SMALL to carry that name….
Vardhan…Rajavardhan a la Bond….James Bond… :P baaprey!!!!…chala kashtam...chala chaaaaaaaaaala kashtam.

Actually….my mother’s name is Rajeshwari and my father’s is Govardhan.. Now u can easily figure it out why I was supposed to be ‘Rajavardhan’. And here goes a small story connected to this issue….Once upon a time…over ayindikada…. ok…..coming back to normalcy…….so when I was born…my dearest mother thought of offsetting the second half of her name and first half of my father’s name…. .and combining the suffixes and prefixes formed…..thereby coining a name Rajavardhan.

Offset(Rajeshwari) ----> raj (= raja) *equation 1
Offset(govardhan) -----> vardhan *equation 2

Adding both equations :

Rajeshwari + Govardhan -----> RAJAVARDHAN

When I was narrated this story by my mother…I could not help laughing. Looking at me…even she started laughing. After the amusement subsided…I thought about the name . Rajavardhan…. Rajavardhan….Rajavardhan….. I started playing with the permutations of combinations. Excerpts from thought-process ;-) :
”if I were Rajavardhan……how would I be called….raj or raja or vardhan...Just Raj sounds too stylish which i am not . Just Raja is cool, gives an impression of a telugu boy….and I can be called….. rajagaadu.. arey raja.. orey raju. Or just Vardhan. Vardhan is fine …as it connotes…like…some strong personality…thinking personality…it goes with this generation …and a lot more….( I’m NOT saying that I have those qualities .I feel Vardhan has that weightiness.) “
Then I combined raja and vardhan to rajavardhan..it didnt sound that good as amalgam..

I thanked my mother for not labeling me so. And I thanked my peddha mamaiah(he’s no more) for giving “kranthi’ to me. Sagacity. Commendable.

Nomenclature Story : Part II

The flip side of the story :

I like it. Rajavardhan…. a name… not formed looking at raasi or nakshatras …. not formed out of fancy. …not formed by doing a serious-thought-process-of-naming-the-first-child… not the name of my parents’ grandfathers.

Its “A proper noun formed from the names of my dear parents”.

My mother just thought of naming me that way and it shows how much they love each other. And it would have been wonderful to have both of them in my name..

bye….
yours,
Rajavardhan…err….sorry…Kranthi ;-)

Pastime-On-Wheels

Hmm....what to call them!!!!! What do we call the writings which bike-owners flaunt just below the back-number plate .As this post is about this subject, for my convenience, I name it as QOB which stands for " Quotes-On-Bike ". ( Patent rights for this word are with me.Any usage of this without prior permission from THE INVENTOR( myself ;-)) is considered as offence) I have been observing these QOBs for many years and everybody does .

The qob that compelled me to write this post is : let me give u a geographical idea where I found this one . There is a narrow turning at masjid after we go past nagarjuna circle . I was driving leisurely on my way to hitec city after enduring the heavy traffic jam at begumpet . I approached this turning and as always...stuck in traffic-jam…as its like a bottle neck. Not even atoms and molecules could move in between the two vehicles…the vehicles were that much closer . To my right...was a black pulsar bike…a boy and girl ..around 24 years of age…she sat closer to him( 'closest' is the right word .She wrapped him in her arms) and …though I was in the raucous traffic I could hear their giggles. It was unintentional ;-) .In that traffic-mire he was cracking jokes and she was laughing agog. I looked at them through my visor-less helmet. A few seonds later…he drove past me and then I caught this qob on his bike :
“ my mom says never talk to girls” .
I was thrilled. I could not control my laughter. I wanted to stand over the top of my office building and share this with everybody..but considering the consequences I would face in this troubled waters my company sailing through ..I shunned the idea and finally ended up here in my blog. From that instance I, I started relating the qob and the person riding that bike. And this proved to be very hilarious and cool . Look at some of these:

At sec'bad station: as usual I was maneuvering through the traffic and saw this on a red pulsar “ I am a hot dude with a cool attitude”. Then I started applying my theorem-> relate to the person on the bike. I was very curious and I was bowled looking at him . The dude was an old older oldest man in white shirt ;-) . Cool!!!!! Very cool indeed :D. God must be praised for his great sense of humour !!!!!! :D

One which almost horrified me was , at paradise circle,“ follow me if u want to die”….I didnt find anything funny about it.In this world where euphemism is favoured, this guy is a real rebel. I desparately wanted to catch a glimpse of this guy but i could not. Another biker is there in this world who thinks in similar fashion. His bike has "I will take u to hell". Great( strange) minds think alike!!! :D

Some try to do differently and end up in pedestrian thing like “ don’t kiss me” “ who’s next” .Uninteresting!!!!

And some qobs show that they like their caste more than anything......“ goud’s “ “ reddy’s” “chowdary’s” “yadav’s “ , whats in caste??? I want to know what makes them feel so proud about their caste. Dont you think its better to have their names instead .No offence meant .

Some bikers are very religious. Lots of bhakti. “ jai sriram” “786” “praise the lord”.

This is also my favourite…“ yesh!!! Itsh my dad’s road”. . generally, its the accent an inebriated funny person puts on :D . So it brings me some giggles whenever I think about it.

And you wont believe this!!!! I was exactly before the lifestyle moving towards panjagutta. I just got down the begumpet bridge. A middle aged man kept on honking ,honking. He was very rash driver and almost hit an auto while he was overtaking and missed by a whisker. The worst part was while he was moving past that auto he hurled some abusive words towards the auto driver for no mistake of the latter. I was puzzled by his arrogant attitude for a minute and then I started laughing..fullu comedy. Here goes the qob on his bike“ Fools don’t follow rules” . Quite obvious. Isn’t it?

Here goes the most common one “ god’s gift” . I never found anything interesting or funny about this initially. But I couldnt help changing that opinion. One day Hari was driving and I was pillion . He was in his best driving though he was exhausted and was frequently irritated by the bad hyd traffic sense. A bike with qob “ god’s gift” just zoomed past us. Hari blurted “ god’s giftaa..antey vaadu konaledannamata.… ekkado dorikindannattey kada…anthey kada kranthi i meaning!!!!” annadu serious gaa.……I could hear no more dialogues nor I could hear any honking of my fellow riders…. as I was already wallowing in a wild laughter .

And some go emotional way …. just a few hours back… I found this QOB “ I lost the battle of love because I wanted to see her win” I could not understand it..I started contemplating.....how could she win when he was not with her. If that is the point... then it means she hated him, never loved him...Very confusing. What did he want to express??

Most of the qobs were intended to to woo girls :P ...like:
“ girls don’t worry..i’ll be back soon”,
“ love for sale..100% discount”.

I found this on a car "drive like u have stolen" :-)

Another intriguing one was “I don’t want to be needed ,I need to be wanted”. I thought about this. Was it philosophical? Or Was he demanding? No idea !!!!!

"Catch me if you can". Dont mind...its not just another qob....am saying... you can catch my blog if u like ;-) :D .....bye.
